Deck Installation Specialists

A deck built for Michigan seasons.

The decks that fail in this region don't fail because of the materials. They fail because of how they're put together: undersized footings above the frost line, ledger boards flashed wrong, joist hangers nailed instead of structural-screwed, fasteners that rust out by year five. A deck is structural work — and it lives outside through every freeze, thaw, and humid August day Michigan throws at it.

We build with Trex, TimberTech, AZEK, pressure-treated wood, cedar, and exotic hardwoods — the right material matched to your budget, design, and how you actually plan to use the space. Composite for the no-maintenance crowd; natural wood for the ones who want the look and don't mind sealing it.

We also handle the parts homeowners hate: permits, inspections, and code compliance. Frost-line footings to 42″, IRC-spec ledger flashing, code-correct guardrail height — the boring details that decide whether your deck is still safe in 2050.

Why Build a Deck

What a deck actually gets you.

Four reasons most homeowners end up calling — beyond just 'I want a deck.'

01

Real Outdoor Living Space

Functional square footage you'll use every weekend from May to October — without the cost of a full home addition.
02

Built for Entertaining

Designed around how you'll actually use it — a grilling station here, dining over there, a step down to the firepit. Not a square box with chairs on it.
03

Resale Value

Decks consistently rank among the higher-ROI exterior renovations in industry cost-vs-value reports. Even more important: they make your home easier to show.
04

Low-Maintenance Options

Capped composite needs nothing but a soap-and-water rinse; PVC even less. The 'stain it every spring' era is over for anyone who wants it to be.
Time to Rebuild?

Signs your deck needs work.

If you're seeing any of these on your existing deck, repair-or-replace is the conversation — and a few are active safety issues that shouldn't wait.

Soft or spongy boards

Wood that gives underfoot signals interior rot. The surface might still look fine — the joists below it usually aren't.

Loose or wobbly railings

An active fall risk, and almost always a sign that the post connections are failing. Don't host another party until this is fixed.

Cracked or splintering boards

Deep cracks let water in and become bigger cracks. Surface splinters become barefoot hazards. Both are progressive.

Visible mold or mildew

Green or black growth in the boards is moisture damage in progress. Pressure-washing makes it look better; the underlying wood is still degrading.

Rusted or corroded fasteners

Joist hangers, ledger bolts, and structural screws that have rusted are the deck-collapse failure mode you read about. Replaceable on most decks.

15–20+ years old (wood deck)

Pressure-treated decks in Michigan typically reach end-of-life by year 20, even with regular sealing. Past that, it's usually time for the replacement conversation.

Decking Materials

What we build with.

Six material categories — every one has a budget tier and a use case where it's the right answer. We'll walk you through which fits your project.

Trex Composite

25-Yr Warranty

The volume leader in capped composite. Made from ~95% recycled material. Fade-, stain-, and mold-resistant — and the line most Michigan homeowners recognize.

TimberTech & AZEK

30–50 Yr

Premium capped polymer (AZEK) and capped composite (TimberTech). Better scratch resistance, more realistic wood-grain texture, and longer warranties than entry-level composite.

Pressure-Treated Wood

15–20 Yr

The value tier. Treated southern yellow pine resists rot and insects. Lower upfront cost; the trade-off is sealing every 1–3 years and a shorter overall lifespan.

Cedar & Redwood

20–25 Yr

Naturally rot- and insect-resistant. Beautiful grain, classic feel, accepts stain and finish well. A premium natural look without the cost of exotic hardwoods.

PVC Decking

25–30 Yr

100% synthetic, zero wood content. The best moisture resistance of any decking material — the right call for waterfront, poolside, and locations that stay wet.

Exotic Hardwoods

40–75 Yr

Ipe, Cumaru, Tigerwood. Extremely dense — sinks in water, requires pre-drilled fasteners, weighs more than other decking. Stunning natural beauty that lasts decades.

Design Options

Deck styles we build.

From a simple ground-level platform to a multi-zone entertainment deck — we design around how you actually use the space.

Ground-Level Decks

Flat Yards

Right at grade or one step up. Easiest install, no guardrail required by code under 30″, and a seamless flow from interior to backyard.

Elevated & Multi-Level

Sloped Lots

For walkout basements and sloped backyards. Distinct zones for dining, lounging, and entertaining — separated by a few steps instead of a wall.

Pool & Hot Tub Decks

Wet Environments

Slip-resistant boards, moisture-tolerant materials, and framing rated for hot-tub loads. Built for the wet environment from the start.

Our Process

How a deck project actually works.

Five steps from consultation to a finished deck. Most builds take 1–2 weeks of on-site work, plus permit lead time.

01

Consultation

We walk your yard, measure the space, and talk through how you'll actually use the deck.

02

Design & Quote

A custom design with material options and a detailed written estimate — itemized, not lump-sum.

03

Permits

We pull permits, schedule inspections, and handle the municipal back-and-forth so you don't have to.

04

Build

Footings to frame to deck boards. Code-spec ledger flashing and structural screws on every connection.

05

Walkthrough

Final inspection passed, the site cleaned up, and we walk the deck with you before signing off.

The Reasonable Difference

Why homeowners choose us.

42 years of Michigan-specific build experience, manufacturer-backed materials, and the install details that decide whether the deck lasts.

Manufacturers You Recognize

We build with Trex, TimberTech, AZEK, Fiberon, and the natural-wood species that hold up here — backed by real manufacturer warranties, not just a handshake.

Permits & Code Compliance

We pull the permit, schedule the rough and final inspections, and build to code — frost-line footings, IRC-spec flashing, code-correct guardrail height. The boring stuff that protects your investment.

Built for Michigan Weather

42″ frost-line footings, hot-dip galvanized or stainless fasteners, and ledger flashing detailed for snowmelt. The freeze-thaw cycle is what kills decks here — we build like it.

Family-Owned Since 1984

Two generations of Michigan contractors — your neighbors, not a national franchise. We're still here when you call us back in five years.

Itemized Pricing & Financing

Detailed written estimates broken out by material and labor — no surprise change orders. Flexible financing, including 0% interest plans on qualifying projects.

Workmanship Warranty

Manufacturer warranties cover the materials; our workmanship warranty covers the install. If a board comes loose or a connection fails because of how we built it, we come back.

Deck Installation FAQ

Deck installation FAQs.

Costs vary widely by size, material, and complexity. Pressure-treated wood typically runs $30–50 per square foot installed. Mid-tier composite (Trex Enhance, TimberTech Edge) runs $50–80. Premium capped polymer (AZEK, TimberTech AZEK) runs $80–120+. A typical 300–400 sq ft deck ranges from $12,000 to $40,000+ depending on material and design. We provide detailed itemized estimates after the consultation.
Typical decks take 1–2 weeks of on-site build time once materials are delivered. Multi-level or larger projects can run 2–3 weeks. Permit approval typically adds 1–3 weeks before construction starts, depending on the municipality. We give you a specific timeline during the design phase.
It comes down to maintenance tolerance and budget horizon. Wood is cheaper upfront but needs sealing every 1–3 years and typically lasts 15–20 years in our climate. Composite costs more upfront but needs almost no maintenance and lasts 25–50 years. Over a 25-year horizon, composite usually costs less once you factor in maintenance. Wood looks more authentic; some people prefer that and don't mind the work.
Yes — virtually every Michigan municipality requires a permit for new deck construction, regardless of size. We handle the application, the structural drawings, and schedule both the rough framing and final inspections. Permit cost is typically $100–400 depending on the municipality, and it's included in our estimate.
Spring through fall (April–October) is ideal weather — the ground is workable for footings and finished decks get used immediately. That said, we build year-round when ground and weather permit. Booking in late winter often means earlier scheduling for spring/early-summer completion; peak season fills fast.
Yes. We offer flexible financing options, including 0% interest plans on qualifying projects, plus longer-term low-monthly-payment plans. Decks are a meaningful investment — the financing should match the size of the project.
